Private Mode Requirements

Private Mode runs on an on-device AI engine. Use Apple Intelligence, or download a model.

Option 1: Apple Intelligence

iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 or later

iPad: iPad with an M1 chip or later, or iPad mini (A17 Pro)

Software: iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri

Works on iPhone, iPad, and Android. Pick a model in the app's Private Mode settings:

SmolLM2 360M: small and fast (about 258 MB)

LLaMA 3.2 1B: the balanced choice (about 500 MB)

Gemma 4 E2B or Qwen 3 4B: larger thinking models (about 2.5 GB each)

Private Mode translation downloads a language pack (about 30 MB) the first time you use each language. After that, it works offline.

Keep enough free space for the model you choose. Apple Intelligence manages its own storage in iOS.
